Beef Biryani: A Flavorful Fusion of Spices and Savory Goodness
Beef biryani, a popular Pakistani and Indian dish, is a mouthwatering blend of aromatic spices, tender beef, and fragrant basmati rice. This recipe serves 4-6 people and is perfect for special occasions or a cozy night in.
Ingredients:
For the beef:
- 1 pound beef pieces (leg or shoulder)
- 2 medium onions, chopped

For the rice:

- 4 cups water

- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 bay leaf
For the biryani masala:
- 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions:
1. Marinate the beef: Mix together the beef, onions, garlic, ginger paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, lemon juice, and ghee or oil. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
2. Cook the rice: Rinse the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and cook in a large pot with 4 cups of water, ghee or oil, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover until the rice is cooked and fluffy.
3. Make the biryani masala: Dry roast the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and fennel seeds until fragrant, Grind into a fine powder and mix with cinnamon powder, cardamom powder, and cayenne pepper.
4. Assemble the biryani: In a large pot or Dutch oven, layer the cooked rice, beef mixture, and biryani masala. Repeat for 2-3 layers, ending with a layer of rice on top.
5. Serve and enjoy: Cover the pot with a tight lid and cook over low heat for 10-15 minutes. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and a dollop of raita (yogurt and cucumber sauce).
